Hello, you sales beasts!

This blog is no longer being updated but will be left for archivable purposes. I want to thank everyone who hired me to speak at their conferences and attendees who hopefully gleaned at least one small nugget from me to help them with their business. My last speaking engagement was in 2014 (although I have been contacted since then).

I stepped into a Sales Coach for event professionals by accident. Running my own event planning business (now entering 16 years) I was asked to speak in 2009 at an inaugural state conference. I was told that I could speak about anything I wanted to. So I did. With years of background in sales experience and training, I talked about closing the sale. It was at Eventology 2009 and I still have my speaking engagement in a frame in my studio.

It was well received. It was also a time where people could connect easily with others. Remember when Twitter was the shit? From there, I was asked to speak this small meeting, this conference and then … actually created my own workshops that I delivered in four states. The best gig ever was my keynote speech in Australia. Bucket List, check!

However, what you might not know about me is that I am also my elderly mother’s caretaker. She suffers from a mental illness and quite often, I was asked to speak during some of my busiest event planning times AND my mom would be in the hospital at the same time. I became stretched very thin, extremely stressed and wanted to be there for my only son (child) graduating high school.

I loved every minute traveling around the country. But I also got a little tired too. And during the short time I started to pull back, many other coaches have come on the scene. Many of them are awesome and I know them personally. I applaud their commitment to carrying on with the coaching torch and helping others who need assistance in developing their own business.

are you the next big thing?

Watched the Super Bowl yesterday. What I thought would be a zzzzzzzzzzz of a game, turned out to be quite gripping. Look I’m not a football fan .. but I love good friends, good food, drinks, and a great half show. And I love the commercials. Perhaps it’s because of my corporate days of selling advertising. One of them really caught my attention for this sales blog, from Samsung:

1. Many of us think we are the next big thing. However I ask you, are our clients buying US, or are they buying a service from us that fills their need? The added benefit is the “you” factor in finalizing their decision. Just think about it. What do your selling words say on your collateral … is it all about you?

2. We all get concerned about our competition. There is a market out there for everyone. Find the need and fill it. It doesn’t matter if someone else already is filling that need, because they may not be everyone’s next big thing.

3. Have a sense of humor. It will get you through the rough patches and make the good times, that much better.

welcome 2013!

I’m surprised I’m here to write this blog post. We seemed to make it past 12.21.12.

The last quarter of 2012 has been a whirlwind, thus my absence from this blog. The real truth is that I have been simply exhausted. #realtalk alert!

Don’t worry, I’m not complaining … it’s nothing super serious. I just seem to have misplaced my inspiration somewhere. It was just here just a minute ago. I’ve looked for it everywhere and am bound and determined to find it!!!

I’m even tagging along with Lara Casey and her movement in mapping out your 2013. She’s a lot sweeter than I am with her delivery of encouragement and while I may need insulin injections reading her blog posts, she’s spot on with her step-by-step process for goal setting. I encourage you to check it out and a big bonus, you get to see photos of her adorable little Ginger baby.

If you are anything like me, these slumps happen, but are short-lived. I’m sure I will get encouraged when I attend (and speak) at The Special Event in Chicago, Illinois in a few weeks. It won’t be as epic as 2012 TSE, but I’m sure it will be memorable and more importantly, inspiring. I’m taking roll call and would love to see you, so please leave a comment if you are going!

I also would like to thank Polka Dot Bride and Girl Friday Weddings for taking the chance on me and flew me out to speak at the Project Innovate in freaking Sydney, Australia. Surreal to have a long-time bucket list goal be checked off and now, I’m an “International Speaker”. *tosses hair*

Sooooo, off to make lists and scribble out some reflections. It’s freezing outside so I might as well do some work!
