VISUALIZATION

I’ve always touted that I keep it “real”, trust me when I tell you that I absolutely believe in the power of positivity and visualization. I have to remind myself of this when life gets me down.

Back in college my girlfriends and I had a saying, “Power of Positive Thinking”. It was my friend, Janet Thomas who started it. Mind you, this was YEARS before the The Secret became a phenomenon. It was the simple concept of concentrating your thoughts on what you want to have happen, and it would become a reality.

If you’ll indulge me, here’s my crazy story that made me a believer. In 1991, I backpacked through Europe with a girlfriend of mine. We split up leaving Italy and she went off to Belgium to visit family and I went to Berlin, Germany. By myself; with my Frommer’s guide and limited knowledge of the German language. Remember my college friend, Janet, who I mentioned above? As luck would have it, she was also suppose to be in Berlin during the same time period with another group. I wasn’t sure of her travel schedule and had no way of contacting her to find out where she was staying (long before everyone had a cell phone).

So at my flat, I decided to make some calls around to local Youth Groups thinking that I may catch a break and find her. No such luck. Feeling a tad lonely, I concentrated on finding my friend. I even remember saying out loud, “Janet, if you are here in Berlin….FIND ME!”. I laughed at myself, of course. Seriously not making this up.

The next day, I was doing the tourist thing and visiting museums (I believe it was the Reichstag). There I was looking at historical photographs and suddenly…in a quiet crowd of people, I hear, “Saaaaaaundraaaaa!” There was Janet (in this instance, I did not feel shame for squealing and being the loud “American”). She was touring museums with her group and we literally bumped into each other at the same time, the same place. Power of Positive thinking? You betcha.

What does this mean for you? Well stop and concentrate on only positive thoughts about selling your services. Take a moment and pull out the Thank You cards you received from clients and re-read them. You are awesome. People love you. You are worth it; to charge what you charge to stay in business.

Visualize a great year.

Visualize knocking out challenges or problems that come your way like you would a baseball, right out of the park (and out of your life).

Visualize good health and energy.

Visualize standing tall and strong and not be discouraged by competitors.

And when you start to feel down, then come back and read this post. Or anything else that gives you a kick in the rear.

Now get out there and DO IT! Let’s make 2011 one to remember….

Happy Selling!

TREATS

You read that right. Go treat yourself. Do something that you have been putting off. Get a massage. Buy yourself that awesome pair of shoes that you’ve been wanting. Get a custom ShootSac so you look spiffy on shoots. Buy a new suit to wear at your weddings. Shell out the bucks for a gym membership. Get a new haircut.

I like to buy something that makes me feel good and wear them to upcoming sales consults!

Do something to treat yourself for efforts in 2010. Pampering yourself is a great way to prepare yourself for the upcoming year.

It will be a little pep in your step. And let’s face it, you’ve been working hard these past ten days (well all year).

Happy Selling!

TEAM MEETINGS

Gather your team together and pump them up for the upcoming season. Make sure they all have updated biz cards or some kind of lead cards to give out to potential clients.

Make sure everyone is up to date on 2011 pricing structure and the way your services.

While YOU may be the main sales person, you always can use a team of people talking up your business. This includes your interns!

Don’t think you have a team? You have family and friends that think the world of you. Use them, they won’t mind. Here’s a few other pointers regarding using your team.

Happy Selling!

REVIEW OF YOUR CONSULT METHOD

Ah, “the consult”. That’s where the magic happens. So let’s be sure all your “tools” that you use is up-to-date. Here are some examples:

  1. Photogs do you have your latest and greatest photo album done to show off? The one that you have been wanting to get completed since June?
  2. Planners are your examples of timelines, layouts, design and decor photos up to date? Do you have other things to add?
  3. What do you use at your consults to show your “works”? Laptop? iPad? Update all your images and processes….. let’s reflect your best work. (Nothing says lame when you are showing off your stuff from 2008).
  4. Do you have latest testimonials to show from clients?

Whatever your process is, review, update and get ready!

Happy Selling!

VENDORS

photobooth On the Eighth Day of Selling...

This is a great time of year to send out a personal note of gratitude and simply make contact to vendors that you have worked with over the past year.

It’s more than just about gifts, it’s personal contact. And let’s face it. While we all have our clients (the bride and groom who pay our bills) our other clients are mutual vendors. We have to work together again.

Reach out and make a connection. This is not the time to ask for referrals, it’s a soft, marketing touch. There is nothing wrong with sending out a new pricing list or info about new services you may offer. But be sure it’s just to update.

It’s a time to celebrate and smile together since we have worked hard all year. And the best thing, you are now at the Top of Their Mind when a newly engaged, potential client comes along.

Happy Selling!
